What TaxBite is
TaxBite is a free, browser-based UK take-home pay calculator for the 2025/26 tax year (with historical years where supported). Enter a salary or profits, choose your region, add optional pension, student loan, or bonus inputs, and see estimated Income Tax, National Insurance, and net pay.
We also publish practical tax guides and salary take-home tables from £20,000 to £150,000 so you can compare common scenarios without re-entering numbers every time.
Who we are
TaxBite is built and maintained by Nen Tech, an independent publisher focused on clear UK pay tools. We are not HMRC, a payroll bureau, or a regulated tax adviser. The site exists because most people only see net pay after the fact — and the gap between gross and banked deserves a name: the Tax Bite.
How the calculator works
- Runs in your browser — salary figures are not uploaded to our servers for the calculation itself.
- HMRC-style bands — Income Tax and employee / Class 4 NI thresholds for the selected tax year and region (England/Wales/NI vs Scotland).
- Optional extras — pension %, student loan plans, bonuses, and reverse (“what salary do I need?”) modes when enabled.
- Estimates only — tax codes, benefits-in-kind, emergency tax, and payroll timing can change a real payslip.
For official rules, check gov.uk Income Tax and your Personal Tax Account.
Editorial standards
Guides and salary pages are written for real decisions: what you keep from a pay rise, whether Scotland changes the bite, what happens around £100k. We use concrete examples, state assumptions, and link back to the calculator so you can customise. Satirical tone is intentional; accuracy of the underlying rates is not a joke.
Advertising & keeping TaxBite free
TaxBite is free to use. When Google AdSense is approved, we may show clearly labelled ads after useful content (for example after calculator results or at the end of a guide) — never as a fake button or disguised result. Partner links, if any, will be disclosed. See our Privacy Policy and Terms.
